A Sway bar (AKA stabilizer bar, anti-roll bar, or roll bar) are designed to reduce body lean and body roll in your Mazda RX8. A Sway bar is usually constructed out of an angled piece of steel or high strength composite material that connects to the body at two points, and at the left and right sides of the suspension. Think about what happens to a car in a sharp turn. If you are inside the car, you know that your body gets pulled or will sway toward the outside of the turn. The same thing is happening to all the parts of the car. So the part of your car on the outside of the turn gets pushed down toward the road and the part of your car on the inside of the turn rises up. In other words, the body of the car rolls or will sway 10 or 20 or 30 degrees toward the outside of the turn. A sway bar will greatly reduce this roll. If you take a turn fast enough, the tires on the inside of the turn can actually rise off the road and potentially flip your vehicle. Roll is bad. With out the sway bar you have more weight on the outside tires and less weight on the inside tires, reducing traction. The less of the tire in contact with the road, the less efficient steering is. Nobody wants reduced traction and steering, it makes for a bad driving experience all around.
Ideally you would like is for the body of your automobile to remain flat through a turn so that the weight stays distributed evenly on all four tires. By installing a rigid sway bar you will increase the stiffness of your suspension and limit the under steer behavior of your vehicle. A sway bar will help keep the tires in full contact and can even allow to run less negative camber to keep the rubber on the road. Therefore making it even more of the race car that it was designed to be. Every driver can use the added traction that a sway bar provides on race day or even just better handling in every day driving, its highly recommended to install that sway bar for your car, stiffen up the suspension from stock and have the confidence and performance you crave.
Sway Bar key points:
- Sway bar Greatly reduces body lean and roll
- Helps your automobile maintain traction and reduce sway in high lateral-gravity turns
- Increases frame and suspension rigidity
- A sway bar keeps the body parallel to the ground in turns
- Ideal for racing or daily driving your RX8
